Welcome to the Tero December eZine

Google the term "business mistakes" and you will quickly see how many million dollar mistakes companies that are household names have made. Most of which originated with something they didn't take notice of and missed. Looking at one's personal life, it's far too easy to recognize in hindsight situations that led to mistakes.... that could have been avoided becoming mistakes, if we had asked the question, "What am I missing here?"

In business and life, mistakes happen. Yet stop to think about the fact we encourage mistakes if we do not get good at asking "What are we missing here?" when faced with a situation or circumstance that is difficult. Who wants to encourage oversight?

This month's eZine challenges you to look at yourself, and the situations you find yourself in and ask, "What am I missing?" When it comes to our personal effectiveness, the opportunity to make errors is great if we fail to examine challenging circumstances and look for what we may not be seeing that could help us auto-correct.

If a meeting doesn't go well, an idea doesn't get listened to, or you are simply not achieving the progress against personal or business goals you had hoped, the problem might be rooted in something you are missing. It could be in something you don't see in yourself, someone else, or the situation that you need to know, communicate about, and correct.

So, let's ask the question several times in this issue and see if we cannot inform our circumstances, our perceptions, and our path to success. The Q and A has two great examples of when we should ask "What Am I Missing?" to become better at work. The development challenge will challenge us to stop and reflect before judging. This skill alone can keep us from acting too quickly and blundering. The article illustrates how Tero is evaluated for its programs. Using feedback provided by our clients keeps us from missing data that might help us auto-correct and make our programs better. The resources cover a range of potential gaffes from the narrative of the demise of companies due to what they missed, to what we might miss if we do not challenge our own bias. The inspiration focuses on what we could consider the core of any good interaction or initiative - trust. It shows us the Johari Window model, and how we can use it to find out what we might be missing in any given situation.

Read on and let us know if there is something we missed! We welcome hearing from you, and hope this issue gets you asking "What Am I Missing?" in order to avert mistakes and find success.

The Tero eZine is published solely for the purpose of providing additional resources to you our readers in your pursuit of interpersonal skill growth. This month we veer a bit away from that purpose for a good reason. We share a very personal article which illustrates one way how we determine "What are we missing?" when it comes to a class or keynote. The illustration is a positive one - nothing missed, but the exercise of analyzing data is our common and frequent practice and helps us spot practices we may want to adjust before they create mistakes. Not only does this article let you in on Tero processes of checks and balances, but may be a catalyst for your data analysis as well.
