Welcome to the Tero November eZine
In the U.S. it is challenging to forget we are in the midst of an election year. The continuous newsfeed of debates, speeches, interviews and opinion polls along with day to day scandalous revelations keep the election front and center.
As an interpersonal research and design firm, Tero examines factors that create positive perceptions. The current media coverage and the candidates' appearances remind us how people evaluate others. How a question is answered, visual image, and vocal quality are just a few of the factors that communicate and add interpretation to what is being said.
This month we analyze interpersonal components that create feelings of trust, or mistrust, competence or incompetence. Interpersonal components not just employed by candidates in an election but evident in how people view and evaluate us at work on a daily basis. Operating often in ways we fail to realize, yet affecting the perception of our character and credibility. Interpersonal skills that can either manage or damage perceptions people hold of us.
Our Q and A this month tackles the importance of visual messaging, as well as what people look for in a leader. The development activity focuses on the crucial skill of active listening. Did you know most of us listen to respond rather than listen to understand? The article is a great piece on election history and what we have learned influences voter perception. The resources address how little time there is before an impression is formed, who gets heard and why, and wise advice that borders on etiquette about keeping political beliefs and conversation with friends separate. Last but not least, be inspired by Carrie Sheffields ten top inspiring quotes about politics and leadership as published in Forbes.
Give the eZine a vote this month by reading and reflecting on the myriad of ways we communicate our character and intent - sometimes without even realizing it.
