Getting Everyone To Participate In Meetings

Question:

No matter how hard I try as a meeting leader, some people just will not talk. What am I missing?

Tero says:

Some of your participants are most likely introverted. Many leaders find that introverts share their best ideas in the hours and even days following a meeting. That's because they need their internal think time before sharing in an external setting.

Try sending a meeting agenda in advance so they have the opportunity for some think time prior to the meeting, which will make them feel more prepared and more comfortable about contributing.

At your meetings, ask plenty of open-ended questions and then be sure to engage in active listening.
