Team Members Interrupting At Meetings

Question:

A member on our team continually interrupts others in meetings. This is frustrating for the team and very disruptive. How can I redirect these comments without hurting feelings?

Tero says:

The answer depends on your role at the organization.

If you are the meeting leader, you are faced with many challenges and this is a common one. Maintain her self-esteem, compliment her initiative, summarize her feedback and redirect the discussion back to the agenda.

If you are her manager, this is a performance issue. After the meeting, find an opportunity to provide feedback in a private setting.

If you are a participant in the meeting there is little you can do. View it as a learning opportunity. Do a self-audit to make sure your meeting behavior is appropriate.
