When to Shake Hands

Question:

I have heard I should shake hands often to establish connection with others. What if my hands are sweating, should I still shake hands? Won't I leave a less than polished impression?

Tero says:

Yes, you should still shake hands.

The actual hand connection is not what the handshake is about. The greeting has many elements including eye contact and posture preceding it and eye contact and conversation following it. It is effective when we are consciously present and paying attention to the other person.

Don't sweat having sweaty palms! Remember that antiperspirants work on hands and foreheads, too.
