Executive Coaching

Highly Personalized Development Plans

Coaching, once perceived as punitive, is now regarded as a tool to gain competitive advantage and sharpen the skills of individuals - especially top performers. Why is coaching becoming so much a core part of development? The things that characterize a coaching relationship are rarely found in other development opportunities.

The coaching relationship is:

  • Highly personalized

  • Goal-focused

  • One-on-one

  • Confidential

  • Feedback and guidance in real-time

The professional coach, unlike most other parties in your network is:

  • Objective and unbiased

  • A subject matter expert

  • Highly skilled in facilitating learning

  • A confidential resource

Does coaching work? According to surveys conducted by the International Coaching Federation, 98.5% of clients are satisfied with their coach and 83% of clients stay with their coach over three months, with an average working period of six months. Additionally, a survey of 100 executives, mostly from Fortune 1000 companies concluded that a company's investment in providing coaching for executives realized an average return on investment of almost six times the cost of the coaching.

Individuals benefit most from coaching when new circumstances call for a change in the way things currently are. When success in a new situation requires a new level of polish or skill that has not been required in the past, coaching can be particularly useful. With all the pluses, it is clear that almost anyone can benefit from a coaching relationship.

For many professionals, who frequently receive little on-the-job coaching, Professional Coaching is often the lifeline to receiving important and reliable feedback. Without the benefit of Professional Coaching, many professionals plateau and are unable to achieve the results they desire. For these individuals, more than anyone else in an organization, coaching can be a vital key to learning and development.

Nature of the Executive/Professional Coaching Relationship

Due to its highly personalized and individualized approach, all coaching is goal focused and designed around the unique needs of the coaching candidate.

A preliminary meeting is held to discuss the coaching relationship, introduce the parties and ensure commitment to the process.

If the coaching candidate decides to proceed with the coaching, a contract is executed to formalize the confidential nature of the relationship and to set out the framework for the coaching.

Tero is able to provide Professional Coaching and Private Training around the following areas:

Tero's Approach

Tero embraces a team-based approach to most executive coaching relationships - especially when the client's goals are complex or diverse. This is an unusual approach to executive coaching and one that makes Tero unique in its field. The benefits to the client are many:

  1. A coaching team guarantees that clients benefit from greater subject matter expertise. Each Tero coach brings their own unique specialties, certifications and experience to the executive coaching relationship. Since the range of goals identified by the client may be diverse, a single coach cannot be, and is not expected to be, an expert in every area. The client will usually interact with at least two, and frequently several, members of the Tero team, each trained and certified in one or more areas relevant to development.

  2. Coaching is not mentoring and therefore benefits from a team model. Mentors have "walked in your shoes" and pass down their wisdom. A coach facilitates your personal and professional growth by asking powerful questions, offering direct feedback and holding you accountable. Mentors often do more telling, coaches do more asking, guiding you to tap your own inner wisdom and resources.

  3. Scheduling coaching sessions can be a challenge for the busy executive. A team approach offers more flexibility in scheduling.

  4. Regardless of the number of Tero coaches involved, one member of the Tero coaching team serves as the team leader or head coach. This person has the advantage of evaluating the overall progress against goals, assessing the big picture and making recommendations and adjustments as appropriate.

Confidentiality

Critical to the success of Executive/Professional Coaching is an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality. Both the identity of the coaching client and the content of the coaching sessions are carefully guarded by Tero - now and forever. Tero takes its responsibility as a trusted partner very seriously and holds itself to extremely high standards of discretion and confidentiality.

Executive/Professional Coaching versus Private Training

When the coaching candidate seeks to acquire new skills, training, in addition to coaching, becomes a key component of the relationship. For many, attending a Tero workshop is not an option due to scheduling conflicts, time constraints, or a desire to acquire the skills in a more private setting.

Private Training sessions bring Tero's proprietary training curriculum and members of the highly-skilled Tero training team to the coaching client in a one-on-one setting. Private Training sessions are typically one-half day or one full day in length and are conducted in a personal, face-to-face learning environment.

Executive/Professional Coaching typically follows the skill-building acquired through Private Training. Coaching sessions are usually one hour in length and are scheduled weekly or bi-weekly over a period of three to six months. Coaching can be conducted in person or over the phone.

Just as a personal trainer helps you reach the next level of fitness, a Professional Coach can help you reach the next level of success.
