Partnership pushes for local spending

The Greater Des Moines Partnership wants you to buy local as part of National Small Business Week, which is part of the U.S. Small Business Administration's observance through May 6. The Partnership said its Look Local First Initiative fits right in. The SBA reports that the nation's 28 million small businesses account for 54 percent of all U.S. sales. They provide 55 percent of all jobs and have accounted for 66 percent of all new net jobs since the 1970s. The Partnership reported that shifting just 5 percent of spending to local vendors could generate an economic impact of more than $1 billion for Des Moines. Read more
