Assessing an Executive Coaching Relationship

Professional Polish Tip from Bridget Barnes

"What do I do if I realize that there is no chemistry between me and my executive coach?" asks Greg. "How can I end the sessions?"

Objectively evaluate the relationship. What is going well? What isn't working? Are your concerns accurate? Or, are you looking for an excuse to end the coaching to avoid the discomfort or making challenging changes?

After you've talked to yourself, talk to your coach. Focus on goals and not on personal characteristics. A skilled coach will handle this professionally. If your coach becomes defensive, this individual may not be suited to help you in the pursuit of your goals.
