Conveying Interest in Phone Communication

Professional Polish Tip from Becky Rupiper-Greene

"How can I convey interest in phone communication since they can't see eye contact or body language?"

Andrew, thanks for asking this. Today we'll address one consideration and follow-up tomorrow with other thoughts.

Few people realize the magnitude of phone communication in business success. Research tells us 87% of the way you are perceived on the phone is due to vocal quality. Only 13% is on what you say.

Tone, pitch, inflection and pace are critical to good vocal quality. These determine whether or not someone feels we are interested in the conversation. It pays to speak slowly and clearly with inflection to communicate interest.
