First be sure to discuss employee roles and responsibilities within your department. Assigning tasks should be a well thought out effort and not left to chance.

Communicate with each individual. Explain how their skills contribute to the department goals and clarify the tasks that need to be completed.

Never forget, look for, acknowledge and express appreciation for demonstrations of talent. This will increase productivity and motivation.
