Andrew asks Tero, is it possible to gesture too much when presenting?
Many of us use our hands to gesture when communicating. Gestures are helpful in enhancing our message and can be a natural movement for us that we may not even be aware of.
Can we gesture too much? It depends on the size of your audience. When communicating one-on-one, use small gestures. When communicating to a large group, larger gestures are appropriate.
Most people who receive feedback that they are gesturing too much are actually gesturing too large for the environment. Monitor the size of your gestures and put your arms to your sides when you are not gesturing to ensure that your arms aren't in constant motion.
