More on Teaching People Skills to Children

Professional Polish Tip from Carlos Alvarez

Today's tip is a follow-up to Josh's question yesterday about helping children develop interpersonal skills to prepare them for the future workforce?

Look in the mirror at your own interactive style. Are you a positive role model? Are you demonstrating effective communication, listening and conflict resolution? If not, gain stewardship over your own behaviors. There are few things more important to the development of children than positive role models.

Beyond your own example, seek workshops, clubs and activities that promote positive interpersonal skills.

When negative examples emerge, talk about them. Challenge young people to find solutions on their own. This will help them build judgment and character.
