Networking and Technology

Professional Polish Tip from Becky Rupiper-Greene

Today's tip is a follow-up to Jodie's question yesterday about taking cell phone calls during networking events.

If you know you may have to take a call, have your phone on vibrate. Preface any conversation with a sincere apology that you may need to take a call.

Politely excuse yourself if the call comes in. Do not talk when others at the event can hear you. Get out of earshot.

This is good practice to follow, not just at networking events, but also at meetings, dinners and anytime you are talking with another person.

If you can avoid using technology by all means do and be fully present to leverage a positive lasting impression.
