Tips for Board Members

Professional Polish Tip from Ro Crosbie

Sandra is attending her first meeting as a new board member. She says "I know to prepare by reviewing the agenda but are there other factors to make a good impression?"

Set two goals for yourself.

At the first meeting, ask "Where would you like me to be seated?" Do not just plop down as there may be established seating.

At each meeting, shake hands, greet and talk with the other board members. Look for opportunities to acknowledge important points made by others and contribute your own.

Always shake hands at the end of the meeting with the other members, and thank the board president.
