Tips for Preparing to Dine Abroad

Professional Polish Tip from Deborah Rinner

"I am attending a business dinner abroad. Any tips", asks Maynard?

Before your trip, visit a restaurant that serves food from the country you will be visiting.

Tap the knowledge of the wait staff to gain familiarity on possible customs and favorites.

Remember not all the world uses utensils in the same way as in the U.S. The continental style of leaving the fork in the left hand is more universal than the traditional American style of switching the fork to the right hand.

Wait to begin until others have and watch what they eat first, what they leave for last and follow suit. Do not refuse food, or show any sign of distaste. Always try at least a bite.
